Kingswood College Grahamstown Scholarships and Bursaries

A scholarship is a financial award granted to a pupil on the basis of their academic, sporting or all-around excellence.

At Kingswood, we offer a number of scholarship places that afford us a way to attract exceptionally talented pupils to the school, for many of whom, this life-changing opportunity might otherwise be out of reach. Successful candidates are awarded a discount on fees.

At the beginning of every year, Kingwood offers a limited number of prestigious scholarships to exceptional candidates across the academic, sports and music faculties, who enter the College in Grade 8 or Grade 10.

Pupils with strong academic ability are invited to apply to write our scholarship exam with an emphasis on language, mathematics and general knowledge. Although scholarships are awarded primarily on academic performance, character, leadership potential, cultural astuteness and sporting ability are also taken into consideration.

Minimum criteria:

  • Currently achieving 75% or above in Mathematics and English.
  • Candidates will need to maintain a satisfactory aggregate in English and Maths annually in order to maintain their scholarship for the following year.

Kingswood has a rich sporting tradition and world-class facilities. We invite talented sportsmen and women, preferably all-rounders, to apply for sports scholarships. High performance in one or more sports in which Kingswood College competes, is essential.

The winner of the scholarship must undertake to represent the School for the duration of her or his time at Kingswood College unless injured.

Minimum criteria:

  • Scholarships are only offered in sports that are offered at the College.
  • Must compete at a provincial/regional level for at least one sport to be considered.
  • Must play A team for, or excel in, at least one other sport to be considered.
  • The candidate’s academic performance will be taken into account.

Our Music School is home to the Kingswood College Concert Band and a number of other ensembles. Music is offered as a subject choice in the Senior School from Grade 8 to Bridging Year. Musically talented applicants must be at the required music level or higher and will be invited to an interview and an audition. They will be required to play pieces and scales and do sight reading.

Minimum criteria:

  • Currently achieving 75% or above in Mathematics and English.
  • Completion of Grade 3 practical examination (UNISA, ABRSM or TCL) in an instrument of their choice, as well as the completion of the Grade 2 Theory of Music examination for Grade 8 applicants.
