Jeppe High School for Girls Subjects Offered

Grade 8 and 9 

Learners follow a prescribed curriculum in Grade 8 and Grade 9. This comprises the following learning areas:

  • Mathematics
  • Language, Literacy and Communication – English and Afrikaans.
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • Economic & Management Science
  • Life Orientation
  • Arts & Culture
  • Technology

Jeppe Girls is in the unique position of being able to offer specialised education as part of the Arts and Culture course. In addition to their Art and Culture lessons each week, Grade 8 and 9 learners are given the choice of either specialising in the visual arts or in music. Jeppe High School for Girls is one of the few state-aided schools that provide this option.

At the end of Grade 9, learners complete their General Education Training phase, which is an exit point from academic education.

Grade 10 to Grade 12

Learners who have successfully completed the General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) have the choice of continuing with the academic Further Education Training (FET) phase.

The subject choices offered by Jeppe High School for Girls from Grade 10 to Grade 12 are as follows:

4 compulsory subjects:

  • Afrikaans 1st Additional Language
  • Life Orientation
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy

3 subjects from:

  • Accounting

School Fees

Jeppe High School for Girls maintains standards of excellence in all areas which is only possible because there is a culture of fee payment at the school.

Jeppe High School for Girls is a State-Aided public school and payment of school fees is compulsory. In State-Aided schools, the state pays the salaries of only some of the teachers and all other costs are paid for by the parents. The school has an academic staff of 55. The employment of additional staff by the Governing Body enables the school to keep classroom numbers manageable and maintain quality teaching.

Over the years, the parent body has consistently voted in support of the budgets that have been tabled. Furthermore, they have given the Governing Body a mandate to ensure that the culture of fee payment is maintained and, to take whatever action is necessary to collect fees. School fees for the coming year are set at the annual budget meeting which takes place in October. The annual increase has been between five and ten per cent over the past ten years and is related to the cost of living index.

It is expected that parents and guardians will pay school fees in full. bursaries are available for those in straightened circumstances.

School fees for the 2024-2025 school year are R37 200.00. Fees may be paid over 10 months, termly or up-front for the year.

 2021-2024 GRADE 8 Applications

Online Admissions will be split into two phases for Grade 8 in 2024

Phase 1

Application for learners currently in grade 7 in public schools will commence at 08:00 on 10 August and close at 24:00 on 3 September. (www.gdeadmissions.gov.za).

Phase 2

Application for learners who are currently not in grade 7 in public schools will commence at 08:00 on 13 September and close at 24:00 on 8 October. (www.gdeadmissions.gov.za).

Before parents/guardians can apply, they must provide accurate parent and learner details to schools where their children are currently in grade 7.

From Monday, 2 August – to 6 August, primary schools will verify and update parents/guardians’ details including the cellphone number, ID number and home address.

It is important that parents provide ONE reliable cellphone number so that they can receive important SMS notifications regarding the application process.

Phase 1 Application period (10 August – 3 September )

This process is very important because, from 10 August, an SMS notification with a LINK will be sent to parents to complete the 5 Step Application Process.

The parent/guardian will be required to verify the cellphone number on the system before starting the 5-step application process.

If the parent uses a cellphone number that differs from the one provided to the school the system will prompt the parent to contact the school to correct the number.

Accordingly, every step of the application process will be confirmed via SMS for security and verification purposes.

Placement Criteria for Both Phases

When a parent applies to a school for their child, it is critical to remember that the following criteria are considered in order of priority below: 

 1 Home address within the school’s feeder zone

 2 Sibling/previous schools

 3 Work address within the feeder zone of the school;

 4 Home addresses within a 30km radius

 5 Home addresses beyond a 3o km radius

Certified copies of the following documents must be submitted within 7 days after making an application:

SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS:

  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Parent/Guardian ID or Passport
  • Valid Proof of Home/ Parent Work address (see below)
  • Grade 7 report card for Grade 8 applications
  • Proof of guardianship if a guardian

NON-SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS:

  • Passport OR
  • Permanent Residence Permit OR
  • Asylum Seeker Permit OR
  • Refugee Permit OR
  • Study Permit OR
  • Parent Work Permit
  • Valid Proof of Home/Work address (see below)
  • Child Clinic card/proof of immunisation for Grade1 application
  • Grade 7 report card for Grade 8 application
  • Proof of guardianship if a guardian

Valid Proof of Home Address:

  • Municipal Invoice, such as water, electricity or rates invoice in the Name and Surname of the parent with whom the child lives (less than 3 months old) or
  • The lease agreement is signed by both the landlord/landlady and the occupant and reflects that lease period which includes occupation at the time of making the application. Lease agreements must be accompanied by the municipal account of the landlord or
  • Mortgage (Bond) statement from a bank or financial institution, in the Name and Surname of a parent with whom the child lives
