Lanuguage Education

Taught by a senior team of lecturers in the Faculty of Education, our B Ed (Hons) course in Language in Education is intended for persons with a strong interest in language issues.

Do you see language as an integral part of facilitating learning in your classroom? Do you wish to find out more about language across the curriculum? Do you want a better understanding of the social and political context of language teaching? The course is intended for persons with a strong interest in language issues. It offers state of the art academic direction to the following professions:

  •     language teachers
  •     future language teacher trainers
  •     publishers and editors
  •     private language teachers
  •     curriculum developers and planners

What makes the course unique?

The B Ed (Hons) Language in Education course is the only course of its kind in the country that has English, isiXhosa and Afrikaans as its orientation. It leads to further study either towards the M. Ed. degree, or to complete our inter-disciplinary Masters in Language Education / Applied Linguistics.

How is the course scheduled?

Classes are normally conducted on weekday afternoons and evenings.
