Department of English

The Department of English at UWC is a leading interdisciplinary department in the humanities in South Africa.

The department’s courses combine traditional literary studies with new courses in media, theatre, creative writing and practical training in various modes of cultural critique.

Cutting Carrots the Wrong Way: Poetry and Prose about Food (uHlanga Press, 2017), by our Creative Writing students, ed. K. Moolman.

Poignant, urgent and experimental, this is a new collection exploring the intersections between family, security, identity, society and food from new, emerging and established writers in the postgraduate creative writing programme of the English Studies department.
