South African Theological Seminary RPL

If you have already studied elsewhere or if you have appropriate ministry experience, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which will reduce the total cost and duration of your programme. SATS offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for the following:

  • Prior studies in theology or a related field were completed at an accredited institution.
  • Prior studies in theology were completed at an institution with whom SATS has an existing RPL agreement.
  • Life experience gained from 3 or more years in full-time ministry.

A portfolio of evidence, including an official transcript, must accompany every RPL application. RPL is not offered in the form of numerical credits but as an exemption from specific SATS courses that are deemed to be comparable to courses that were completed before. Applications for RPL may be done as part of the online application process, or subsequently, by contacting the Enrolments Officer at enrolments@sats.edu.za.

SATS charges a once-off RPL assessment fee, which is payable regardless of the outcome of the application.

You may apply for prior learning on Step 5 of the Online Application Form
