Open Window Institute Scholarships 2023 Competition

This is your journey towards creativity – let us help you to realise it.
(Kindly note that you have to be in Grade 12 to enter this competition.)

By entering our competition, you stand a chance to win a full or partial scholarship from The Open Window towards the first year of any certificate or degree programme of your choice for 2023 at The Open Window.*

There are four specialisation streams at The Open Window:

• Animation Arts
• Creative Technologies
• Film Arts
• Visual Communication

*Please note that admission to The Open Window programmes will be based on our standard admission requirements per programme. The scholarships will only be viable for candidates that meet Degree entry requirements.

What to enter:

The Open Window is looking for a creative young leader in ‘Visual Storytelling. Visual Storytelling is a skill that all four schools at The Open Window emphasise: Animation Arts, Creative Technologies, Film Arts and Visual Communication.

We want you to create a series of 5 images or frames inspired by the theme of ‘A journey towards creativity.’
You are encouraged to share a glimpse into your creative mind in the form of a short narrative (this could be a story about when you first encountered your creative superpower, for example).
Harness your imagination and express your inner creativity through the power of imagination, creativity and storytelling.

You can use any format, any approach, or any visual medium – as long as you can submit the story of your own creative journey digitally.

Some ideas to help you:

Think of stop motion*, comics, photographs, typography, sound*, animation*, 3D objects, digital designs/illustrations, textiles, ceramics, film, etc. But you are not limited to these approaches.

*Please note that time-based entries should not exceed 30 seconds. Films or animations do not need to have 5 scene changes, but rather 5 events/moments that are linked by cause and effect.

Also, think of the following:

• What does creativity look like to you?
• Share a moment in which you discovered the power of your creativity and share the story through means of creative expression.
Try not to be too literal. Express what your creativity looks like. Consider what makes it unique.
• What is your creative superpower? Use this in telling your story. Is it taking photos, making short films, drawing comics, or accessing The State of Flow?
• Were you playful in your approach?
